Venture Capital Investing Slows ...
April 18, 2013 | BusinessWeek
In the first quarter of 2013, U.S. venture capital firms invested at the slowest pace in more than two years, according to a Dow Jones VentureSource report. Venture firms closed 752 deals in the quarter, putting $6.36 billion into companies, both the lowest totals since the third quarter of 2010. And if you do see it, why aren’t you writing a check?” It likely will cost more than the millions invester by the state, but also the job of Governor Lincoln Chafee

Jobs Keep Creeping Out of Downtowns
April 18, 2013 | USA Today
The recession put the brakes on job growth but did nothing to reverse a decades-long trend: job sprawl. Despite the economic slump, the share of metropolitan areas' jobs farther from downtowns increased from 2000 to 2010, according to Brookings Institution research out Thursday. The share of jobs located in or near a downtown declined in 91 of the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas.

Immigration Bill Calls for Slew of Regulations, New Bureaucracy
April 18, 2013 | The Hill
The sweeping immigration reform bill unveiled Wednesday would bring a raft of new regulations and add more layers to the federal bureaucracy. The 844-page Senate bill calls for a dramatic expansion of the country’s worker verification system, an overhaul of visa programs and a new set of proposed regulations allowing undocumented workers to become “registered provisional immigrants.”
