New York Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday that Cornell University and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology had secured the city’s blessing to build a state-of-the-art applied sciences research campus on Roosevelt Island, between Manhattan and Queens. Cornell, one of the only top private research universities in the country not located in an urban area, saw expansion into New York as a necessary component of its future.
